Pennsylvania, 1948
Joseph Fisher started Fisher Tank and Welding Company in Chester, PA in 1948. Mr. Fisher saw a need for effective, mobile and honest welded steel tank repair services in the burgeoning oil and gas industry in the refinery-rich Northeastern US.
Soon the Fisher Tank team was not only repairing oil tanks, they were building tanks, too. As the industry boomed, the need for storage tanks boomed. Refineries, manufacturing plants, chemicals production facilities and other operations all needed tanks. In 1951, Mr. Fisher incorporated in Chester, PA under the name Fisher Tank Company. As suburbs exploded around major cities, there was a huge need for water storage tanks to serve those new communities. Fisher Tank built its first welded steel standpipe in West Point, PA in 1956. The 100-foot-tall standpipe held 250,000 gallons of water.
The company continued to grow steadily, adding equipment, personnel and capabilities to its Chester fabrication shop, and serving such local giants as Sun Oil, New York Shipbuilding Company, Gulf Oil, The Veteran’s Administration Hospital and the Huber Baking Company. The company remained a small business, however, and its leadership held tightly to Mr. Fisher’s high standards for quality work and integrity in all business relationships.
In the early 1970s, the company identified the need for welded steel storage tanks in the growing industrial activity in the Southeast. In 1975, Fisher Tank began offering tank design, construction and repair services to a variety of potential customers in the Southeastern US. Starting with a single Toyota Corolla, Fisher Tank Company’s South Carolina operations were established in Lexington, SC, and grew to include a fabrication shop and an office that housed sales, engineering, safety and other operations.
With custom fabrication and construction unit maintenance shops along the major I-20 and I-95 corridors, Fisher Tank Company was well positioned to serve customers in many sectors of our economy. From the oil and gas industry to power generation, bulk liquid terminals to pharmaceutical production, wherever there was a need for safe, economical, reliable custom storage vessels, Fisher Tank offered custom tank solutions. The company soon established itself as a leader in the field-erected welded steel tank industry, building all across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest and Gulf Coast regions.
