YOU’RE FABRICATING STEEL TANKS WHERE?
Welcome to Leesville, South Carolina, home of Fisher Tank Company’s incredible state-of-the-art tank fabrication facility (and a few offices, too). Today on the Think Tank, we invite you in to take a look at our Leesville campus, where we’re cutting and rolling and blasting steel plate for tanks all over the Southeast and beyond.
WHY BUILD WELDED STEEL TANKS IN LEESVILLE, SC?
Fisher Tank Company is headquartered in Chester, PA, where the company began in 1948. In the beginning, Fisher Tank Company provided tank repair services to the burgeoning refinery business and other industries in the northestern part of the U.S. Soon tank repair led to tank construction and before long, the little tank outfit on the corner of 3rd & Booth in Chester, PA, was building field erected welded steel storge tanks all over the eastern part of the US. Through the 50s, 60s and 70s, Fisher Tank Company continued to grow, and the company’s reach extended far beyond its original footprint.
FISHER TANK EXPANDS TO SOUTH CAROLINA
The company began hearing from more and more customers in the southern part of the country, where industry was expanding and the need for storage tanks was growing as well. In the 1970s, Fisher Tank Company opened an office and a fabrication shop in Lexington, SC, a growing community just outside of Columbia with great interstate access and plenty of land for industrial development. That location, on Two Notch Road, served customers in the Southeast, Southwest, and beyond for decades. By the early 2000s, the Lexington, SC, location was bursting at the seams, and the company was evaluating options for expanding its operations.
It just so happened that Fisher’s next door neighbor in Lexington was Michelin, and Michelin was also looking to expand and needed the land Fisher was occupying. A deal was struck, and Fisher began plans to build a brand new, state of the art flagship tank fabrication facility just a few miles down the road in Leesville, SC. The Leesville location offered ample space for a huge fabrication shop, a huge stoneyard, a maintenance shop, and an office building, along with easy access to I-20 and I-77, and even the potential for rail access in the future.
A DREAM TANK FABRICATION SHOP TAKES SHAPE
Fisher worked with closely with O’Neal, Inc. (Greenville, SC) to develop plans for the project. The campus was to include office space to house Fisher’s Construction Management team, Project Managers, Engineering, Quality Control, Safety, the Sales and Estimating team, and other administrative function. Also planned was a much larger fabrication shop, along with space for a fitting shop, a maintenance shop, and space for materials to be stored on the property.
Today, the Fisher Tank Company Leesville campus includes an office building, with meeting spaces and individual office spaces, as well as a canteen and full locker rooms adjacent to the fabrication shop. The star of the property is the 85,000 square foot fabrication facility, designed to aodate full tractor trailer loads of carbon and stainless steel plate. Fisher Tank’s Leesville shop includes plasma cutting tables, plate rollers and facilities for fabricating tank stairs, ladders, bridges, and other custom tank elements. The fab shop also houses a Wheelabrator for in-house plate blasting, and an environmentally controlled paint booth for in-house steel priming.
BUILDING TANKS FOR INDUSTRY, ONE STEEL PLATE AT A TIME
Fisher Tank Company’s products are all over the U.S., in all types of industrial and not-so-industrial settings. From a single, 500,000 gallon water storage tank on a wooded ridge in Missouri, to a vast anhydrous ammonia storage tank on the plains in South Dakota, to a crude oil storage tank at the Port of Wilimington, Fisher-built tanks are working hard every day. The fabrication shop in Leesville, SC, has recently turned out custom fabricated steel plates to build storage tanks for fuel and water for a power plant in Port Everglades, FL, storage tanks for a North Charleston, SC, interntational terminal facility, and for storage tanks for a chemial complex in Baytown, TX. We’re building tanks for a variety of applications and specifications, including API 650, API 620, AWWA D-100 and NFPA.
At Fisher Tank Company, we are proud of our history, proud of our resources and excited about our future. Our facilities in Chester, PA, and in Leesville, SC, are well equipped to support field erected welded steel tank projects in the Northeast, in the Southeast, along the Eatern Seaboard, in the Midwest, in the Gulf Coast region and beyond.
